Tony! The Tony Blair Rock Opera – A Quick Capsule Theatre Review

What do Cherie Blair, Princess Diana, John Prescott, Peter Mandelson, Alastair Campbell, Osama bin Laden, George W Bush, Saddam Hussein and Gordon Brown all have in common?  Well they all feature in the wonderfully bizarre Tony!  The Tony Blair Rock Opera... the musical you never knew you needed but one you will come out of laughing, crying and generally wondering why you voted new labour (buyers regret is real)

Jack Whittle steals the show as the former Prime Minister  - smarmy and smug in that way Blair was but, like real life, it's the inclusion of Howard Samuels as Mandelson and Campbell that is often pulling the strings on some of the oddest moments!

Along the way as you take in Blair's rise and eventual fall (well fall unto multi-million dollar speaking and corporate gigs) you get to enjoy such songs as "The Whole World Is Run by Arseholes" and “I Never Done Anything Wrong”... all cut from teh same biting cloth as The Thick of It and Yes Minister.

Hill and Brown deliver a biting satire, performed brilliantly but the cast in a way that really makes you wonder just how he got away with it all.  Next up Boris! The Boris Johnson Concerto?  Maybe...

Written by Harry Hill and Steve Brown.  Directed by Peter Rowe.
